It was a timely reminder that time is far more precious than money. Our health is directly related to our freedom, because without it, where would we be?
The five most commonly expressed regrets of the dying:
1. “I wish I’d had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me.”
It's hard not to always want to please others. Sometimes it's easier to just do what is expected and take the same route, rather than paving a new road.
2. “I wish I hadn’t worked so hard.”
I don't think anyone would be on their deathbed and say, "gee, I wish I would have worked more, or harder." Things seem to fall in to perspective when you are faced with the end of your life. It would be unfortunate if we didn't realize the more important things until it was just too late.
3. “I wish I’d had the courage to express my feelings.”
4. “I wish I had stayed in touch with my friends.”
I found it interesting that researchers say that Facebook does have it's positive aspects, and really helps with this particular "regret". It allows us to keep in touch with friends that really played important roles in our lives in the formative years, as well as giving the ability to send a quick note to when we only have a minute to spare.
5. “I wish that I had let myself be happier.”
Being happy can be a choice. Realize that you do have control over your thoughts, feelings and actions. This reminded me of a saying; if you are not happy with what you have right now then you will not be happy with what you get. Think about that.
"Happiness is a way of travel, not a destination." So travel happy!
